David Gerard Vandelanotte was born on February 8, 1962 in Marshall to Jasper and Agnes (Meulebroeck) Vandelanotte. He grew up in rural Cottonwood and graduated from Cottonwood High School. On May 7, 1983, he was united in marriage to Allison DeSmith at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. To this union, three sons were born: Jonathon, Jeremy, and Jance. The couple farmed and raised their family on the home farm in rural Cottonwood. David was passionate about farming, and enjoyed working side by side with his dad, Jasper, and brothers, Mark and Allan for many years. He was especially proud to farm with his sons Jeremy and Jance. David was also exceptionally proud of his son, Jonâs military service.
Family was most important to David. He and Allison loved spending time with their children and grandchildren. David was very social, and always made his family and friends feel special by taking time to visit, sharing a laugh, and giving them a hard time. David loved working the land, caring for his cattle, taking scenic photos, and watching various nature television programs. He also enjoyed playing cards, golfing and motorcycling.
David died on Saturday, April 25, 2020 under hospice care, surrounded by his loving family at his residence in rural Cottonwood. Despite his difficult battle with cancer, David always maintained a very positive attitude.
David is survived and will be deeply missed by his loving wife Allison of Cottonwood, sons: Jonathon (and McKenzie) of Montevideo, grandchildren Elijah, Reese and Jakob; Jeremy (and Alissa) of Cottonwood, grandchildren Gavin, Gary and Rowan; Jance (and Lexie) of Cottonwood, grandchildren Kylie and Lincoln; siblings: Mark (and Jane) Vandelanotte of Cottonwood, Mary Jo (and Mike) Katke of Blaine, Allan (and Gloria) Vandelanotte of Cottonwood, Janice (and Peter) Stamps of Fort Worth, TX, Julie Vandelanotte (and David Browning) of St. Paul and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Jasper and Agnes Vandelanotte and father-in-law David DeSmith.
