David "Otis" Joseph Bergstrom

Mass of Christian Burial for David “Otis” Bergstrom, 63, of Marshall, will be on Tuesday, September 29, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Marshall. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026, beginning at 5:00 p.m. at the Oasis Bar in Milroy.

David “Otis” Joseph Bergstrom was born on July 18, 1963, in Marshall to Eugene and Magdalen (Schueller) Bergstrom. He was married to Barbara Thooft at St. Mary’s Chapel in Marshall. Dave worked at the Schwan’s Ice Cream Plant for 34 years. He began on the assembly line and worked his way up through the ranks before retiring as a Capacity Inventory Planner. For the last two years, he owned and managed the Oasis Bar in Milroy, where he fulfilled his lifelong dream of owning a pool hall.

Dave was a quiet man, but when he spoke, you could expect wisdom and wit. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He liked to be outside, whether it be pheasant and deer hunting, fishing, playing rolle bolle, or playing local amateur sports. Dave was very involved in billiards, both as an adult league player and in developing the Marshall junior league. In 2026, he was inducted into the C&N Entertainment Hall of Fame. He loved hearing his children and grandchildren playing around the house, and he was very supportive of this loved ones.

Dave died on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at his residence in Marshall. He is survived by his wife Barb Bergstrom of Marshall; children Andrea (Joshua) Gossett of St. Paul, Justin (Rachel) Thompson of Glyndon, Nicole Bergstrom of Lucan, Joseph Bergstrom of Mankato, and Bridget Bergstrom of Marshall; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; siblings Gwenn (Roger) Lofgren of La Vista, NE, Audrey (Paul) Volkenant of Odessa, and Mark (fiancée Marcella) Bergstrom of Marshall; as well as many nieces, nephews, brothers- and sisters-in-law, relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Eugene and Magdalen Bergstrom.
