Mass of Christian Burial for Darlene Wersal, 87, of Marshall, will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 30, 2025, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. A livestream and recording of the service will be available at www.holy-redeemer.com. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m., with a rosary at 6:00 p.m., at the Horvath Remembrance Center in Marshall. Visitation will continue from 9:30 until 10:30 on Monday at the remembrance center. Interment will follow the service at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Marshall.

Darlene Ann (Helget) Wersal was born to Emil and Elizabeth “Elsie” (Ludwig) Helget on August 24, 1937. The family farmed in the Hanska, MN, area and later near Sanborn, MN. Darlene graduated from Sanborn High School. On November 22, 1955, she was united in marriage to Leo Wersal at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Sanborn.

The family lived in Springfield, then moved to Wood Lake in 1969. In 1974, the family moved to Marshall. After the children were all in school in Wood Lake, she worked at Control Data in Redwood Falls. After moving to Marshall, she worked at Skewes Jewelry, Gag’s Drug Store, and Leo’s Fairway, where she and Leo were part owners. Darlene and Leo moved to Sioux Falls, where she worked at Dak Electronics until she retired. The couple spent 15 years full time RVing after their retirement and returned to live in the Marshall area in 2013.

Darlene enjoyed traveling, riding on Leo’s motorcycle, golfing, bowling, embroidering, and reading. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Darlene died on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at the Clarkfield Care Center. She is survived by her children David Wersal of Cottonwood, Debbie (Mike) Engler of Marshall, Rick (Carrie) Wersal on Marshall, Randy (Carol) Wersal of Ivanhoe, Scott (Michelle) Wersal of Marshall, and daughter-in-law Brenda Wersal of Sioux Falls; 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leo, son Bradley, brother Ken Helget, sisters Joyce Krzmarzick, Deloris Alt, and Elaine Flaig Pechtel.
