Cheri Lynn Kirk BuysseCheri Lynn Buysse passed away Friday, February 2nd at the family farm. She was 57 years old. Cheri was born August 22, 1960, the fourth child, to Wes and Margaret Kirk (Gustaf) in Slayton. She was baptized and confirmed at United Methodist Church in Balaton. She later converted to Catholicism. She was married at Saint Maryâs Chapel in Marshall. She graduated from Balaton Senior High School in 1978 and then went to Mankato State University to pursue a degree in Education. She later received her Masterâs degree in Science from Bemidji State University. She taught for 35+ years and continuously tried to improve her method of teaching to advance student learning. She started out teaching physical education in Lake Crystal for grades K-6, then she taught at Holy Redeemer in Marshall for 14 years, and for the past 20 years she has been teaching health, physical education, and science at the Marshall Middle School. She continued to take courses to improve her learning background. Education was her passion. She enjoyed working with all kids. She would constantly care for her students like they were her own. She continuously integrated new technology into the classroom to help her students learn. She loved talking about the accomplishments of her students and would go to different school activities to show them how much she supported them. She always did what was best for her students. On June 18, 1983 she married the love of her life, Chuck Buysse. They cared, loved, and respected each other profoundly. Working side by side, helping and caring for each other, and always giving it their very best together to try to overcome any obstacle that they had to endure. Cheri and Chuck had two children, Amber and Jared. Her interests and hobbies included family vacations, sitting on her deck and porch, working outside, horses, and going to sporting events. Cheri loved going horseback riding through various State and County Parks. She was an avid sports fan, who would attend different sporting events around the Marshall area cheering on her children, nieces, and nephews. Spending time with her family and especially her new granddaughter, Avery, brought her the most joy, smiles, laughter, and happiness. Cheri is survived by her daughter Amber (and Trent) Altheide of Marshall, her son Jared (and Kasi) of Waconia, and granddaughter, Avery Altheide. Siblings, John (and Angie) Kirk of Spring TX, Cindy Kirk (and Jerry) of Garvin, Teresa (and Chuck) Swanson of Balaton, David Kirk of Balaton, Jeff (and Brenda) Kirk of Tyler, mother, Margaret Kirk of Garvin, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Chuck, her dad Wes, and several aunts and uncles. Her energetic personality, storytelling, and love will be greatly missed by all of us. Blessed be her memory.
Dearest Amber and Jared/family~ I want to extend my sincerest sympathy with you on the loss of your parents recently. You were both very little when I seen you last when I had babysat you in your toddler/preschool years. ( I lived next door with Greg/Donna DeLanghe in the summers and spent weekends to babysit Hoss, Casey, Brooke and Britney :). Even though it's very unlikely you'd recall who I am, since I read the obituary yesterday you have been on my heart and in my thoughts constantly the last two days. The pain and the loss you must feel from all of these sudden changes would be overwhelming. I wish I could say or something that would take that hurt away for you. I just wanted to write a note for you to know that even though it's been a long time, you are cared about and prayers are being said on your behalf. I really enjoyed your parents and their fun personalities. As a teenager, so many years ago, I could see their love for each other. You'll continue to be in my heart. Shannon Rhodes, Slayton MN ( You can look my photo up on facebook... you may remember me if you see my photo) Blessings and healing.

I so remember Cheri, Mrs. Buysse at HRS working with me and helping me to feel good about myself and my disabilities(different abilities), and that I was no different than anyone else, everyone has different abilities. I remember how hard she worked with Mr. Schommer to teach me how to finally balance and ride a two wheel bike, in 6th grade, so I could ride along with all of my friends. It was a mountain of an achievement both for her and for me. I remember the day at the chapel, when we both were called up to receive a achievement award for this awesome accomplishment which helped me to believe her saying "you can do it, you will do it!" She was an awesome teacher that always made you feel good about yourself. I am in PA. , so could not attend your funeral today. Prayers to your family Cheri. Jeff

I subbed for Cheri on several occasions after I had retired. She was a phenomenal teacher and it showed through the high interest the students had towards the curriculum she taught and the respect the students had for subs. I admired her respect towards all students. Dennis Larson

We are deeply saddened to hear of Cheri's passing. We only met her one time about 2 weeks ago at Rochester but we have thought of her often. What a beautiful soul that left a lasting impression on us. Eternal rest grant on to her oh Lord. and peace to those she left behind.

Our hearts ache for Cheri's beautiful family. There is never an easy way to say goodbye to the ones we love. She was one of the kindest people I ever had the privilege to know. When we were young and starting out, Cheri and Chuck took a chance on us and sold us their mobile home contract for deed. We have never forgotten that kindness and their willingness to help out a young broke couple just starting out. Glenn has known Cheri since growing up in Balaton and we have always been blessed to call her friend. May she rest peacefully with the love of her life. Well done good and faithful servant.

So sorry to hear of the passing of Ms.Buysse. Our thoughts and prayers go out to The family. Skylar really enjoyed having her as a teacher and loved driving by her house on the way home and seeing her out in the yard or by the horse shed. She would always wave if she seen us. Our condolences.
