Carter Joseph Boerboom

Carter Joseph Boerboom was born on May 16, 2001, in Marshall to Wade Boerboom and Susan (Emmons.) He was baptized at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and attended Holy Redeemer Catholic School. Carter enjoyed playing and watching basketball. He played for Holy Redeemer School, Marshall Hoops, the Southwest Slam and the Minnesota Heat. He was an avid Duke Blue Devils and Golden State Warriors fan. Each of these teams won a championship this year and that provided Carter with a much needed boost while he received medical treatments. He also enjoyed lake activities including fishing, jet skiing, four wheeling, boating and inner-tubing. He liked hanging out with his friends and family and cruising around Savannah Oaks in his golf cart. In December, 2013, Carter was diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma. After a long and courageous battle with this cancer, Carter died on Tuesday, June 30, 2015, at the Sanford Children’s Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD, surrounded by friends and family. He is survived by his parents Susan and Tom Geske of Lynd, Wade and Joy Boerboom of Marshall, siblings Katie Boerboom, Jennifer (and Aaron) Danczyk, Brad Geske, Izabella Dieken and Samuel Dieken, great-great grandparents Joseph and Charlotte Brown, grandparents Patrick and Patricia Emmons, Richard and Karen Geske, Tom and Fran Hill, great-grandparents Joe and Betty Claeys, Erma Griffen, grandparents Steve and Nancy Boerboom, Ron and Glenda VanLerberghe, niece Autumn Danczyk, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the Holy Redeemer School.

Wade, I've never reached out to a family through a website before but really wanted you to know you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. All the things I have been reading about Carter relates what a wonderful young man he was and how lucky you all were to have him. We are so sorry for your loss and are glad you have those wonderful memories nobody can ever take from you. The picture of him at the basketball game with the stocking cap on looks an awful lot like you at that age, Wade! Take care, Dan and Kathy Sussner

Although we had never met Carter personally, I know that he will be deeply missed. What a brave soul!! You know that God has bigger plans for him. Happy that he is no longer in pain and is probably jumping around and shooting hoops! Love all the pictures of his big smile! He will forever be your angel! God Bless!
