Arlene Rose (Bauer) Verkinderen was born on November 28, 1937 at the Marshall hospital, the only daughter of Joseph and Margaret Bauer of Lucan, Minnesota. She graduated from Milroy High School and then attended college at Mankato state. Soon after she started working as an operator, city clerk and book keeper for the city of Ghent. On May 23, 1959, Arlene married the best guy ever, Daniel Verkinderen. This marriage was blessed with one son, Scott. The couple bought the Silver Dollar Bar in Ghent soon after they were married. The bar was known for their smelt and rocky mountain oyster feeds that they would have during the year. The couple sold the bar 1977. Arlene loved to entertain family and friends. She enjoyed trying new recipes, making sure to mark in her cookbooks if it was a keeper. Arlene and Dan traveled multiple times to Europe, spending most of their time in Belgium. The couple renovated their home, this being a labor of love for the two of them to work on. She was a member of the Red Hat Club, an avid bowler, played bridge with friends and also was an election judge. Arlene doted on Dan and Scott and loved every moment with her family and spoiling her grandkids.
Arlene passed away peacefully on Friday, July 20, 2018 at the Legacy Care Center in Minnetonka. She is preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Verkinderen; and her parents, Joseph and Margaret Bauer. She is survived by her son, Scott and his wife, Peggy; grandchildren, Meghan and Michael Verkinderen; and many relatives and friends.
