Mass of Christian Burial for Anita VanOverbeke, 92, of Marshall, will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 18, 2019, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with a CCW Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a Parish Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at Rehkamp Horvath Funeral Home. Visitation will continue from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Marshall. Anita Theresa (Giefer) VanOverbeke was born on March 21, 1926, in Elkton, SD, to Clem and Ida (Hess) Giefer. The family farmed south of Marshall and Anita attended country school and graduated from Marshall High School. She worked for a time for the Challett Oil Company and later the Challett Meade Candy Company. On May 22, 1946, she was united in marriage to Joseph VanOverbeke at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. To this union were born seven children. In 1995, Anita and Joe moved to Marshall. Anita was an active member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. She was a Board Member and received her 50 Year Pin for the Catholic Daughters of America. Anita also enjoyed membership in the Marshall Golf Club, Bowling Association and the Marshall Area Senior Center. She enjoyed reading and playing cards. For many years, Anita wintered in Mesa, Arizona. Anita was most fond of time spent with her family, especially the annual week spent at Viking Bay Resort on Lake Miltona. She will be remembered for her warm personality, fun disposition and kindness to others. Anita died on Wednesday, March 13, 2019, at the Minneota Manor in Minneota. She is survived by her adult children Lynn (and Tony) Toro of Long Island, NY, Sandy (and Gary) Nuytten of Ghent, Kerry (and Tom) Eisenmenger of Grand Island, NE, Jane (and Barry) Weidauer of Cottonwood, Joe (and Shirley) VanOverbeke of Marshall, Cathy (and David) Pavlak of Big Sky, MT, Brad (and Kelsey) VanOverbeke of Fairmount, ND, 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, sister Clementine VanDenBroeke of Cottage Grove, OR, and sisters-in-law Rosella Giefer of Detroit Lakes and Marge VanOverbeke of Maple Grove, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joseph and siblings Francis Giefer, Mary Raymer, Roman Giefer, and Maurice Giefer. Memorials preferred to Prairie Home Hospice or the Holy Redeemer School. Blessed be her memory.
