Alverna DeRoode

Alverna DeRoode was born February 14, 1927 in Ghent, MN and died in St Paul, MN on February 5, 2017. Preceded in death by husband Robert John, daughter Rebecca Day, Mother Mary (Baert) and Father Leo Curwick, sisters Eileen and Elizabeth, brothers Bernard and Lawrence, Father and Mother-in-law Theodore and Mary DeRoode. Survived by daughters Christine Matimba, Gloria, Miriam, Melissa DeRoode, and Mary Saunders; 16 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, brothers Edward (Joyce) and LeRoy Curwick (Kay), sisters Marie Sullivan, Kathleen Drown, Virginia Steinfadt, and Valerie Jakob (Thomas), brother-in-law Theodore DeRoode (Nancy), sister-in-law Clara DeRoode; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. “Mother, we love and thank you for your devotion and care. The gifts you passed on to us - an open heart and love for life and people, gratitude for the love of God and the spiritual, a spirit of generosity, love for learning, an appreciation for nature, beauty, music, art, books, the spoken word, cultures and people around the globe, and all walks of life, we will treasure forever”. Visitation from 4-8 at Rehkamp Funeral Home, 411 W Lyon. Marshall, MN Friday, 2/10. Funeral Mass St. Eloi Church Ghent, MN on Saturday, 2/11 at 11AM. Memorials preferred to family. A celebration of Ali’s life will be held in Metro Area when warmer weather arrives.
